Pedentive

If a masonry dome is placed on top
of a square or hexagonal or octagonal room
the dome and the room will fit lop
sided, not at  all, not now, not any time soon.

But by making the dome and the room both fit
and being creative and inventive
the mason contrives a dome that will sit
upon a contrivance called a pedentive.

  1. Interesting explanation of the pedentive and its role in masonry and dome construction. I like how it breaks down a complex architectural element into something easier to understand, especially for those learning structural design. Even while browsing different topics online, like 24kbet, it’s always valuable to come across posts like this that help build knowledge in architecture and engineering basics. Thanks for sharing!
